UPDATE/Nicusor Dan, after Recorder's disclosures: I invite all magistrates to write to me directly about their problems
President Nicusor Dan invites all magistrates to write to him directly about the problems they are facing, but he tells them that there needs to be a commitment within the profession as well.
The head of state stated on Facebook on Wednesday that he had 'watched the Recorder documentary about justice from beginning to end'.
'The easiest thing is to revolt, once again, and to throw the blame generically. It is even harder to solve the problems in the justice system,' the president wrote on his social media on Wednesday.
He congratulated the filmmakers of the documentary Recorder 'who bring important issues into the public debate, in a way accessible to the public.'
'Secondly, I do not want to excuse politicians in any way. The fact that the fight against corruption has been dramatically reduced has political influence. The appointments of chief prosecutors were political. Society has been talking about problems in the justice system for a long time without seeing, at the level of the Ministry of Justice, the will to really get into them. But the solution to the problems raised is also within the justice system. The cases presented must be investigated and the recurrence of these cases must be investigated in particular. And the guilty persons must be punished, but also by the justice system, and on the basis of evidence. Because the Recorder material presents both facts, which are clear, and opinions, which must be proven,' the head of state emphasized.
Nicusor Dan asks several questions in this context: 'Who collects the evidence and who makes the complaints? Why don't we have a report from within the justice system yet, even though these things have been talked about for a long time? How many complaints have been made from within the justice system on the facts we are talking about? How many legal actions have been taken on the facts we are talking about? Why are there only three active magistrates who have agreed to speak openly with reporters? Why has no one run against Lia Savonea for the leadership of the High Court?'.
The President reiterates that work has begun 'on a report with data on the problems in the justice system.'
'We discuss with the magistrates. I invite all magistrates to write to me directly about the problems they encounter and I assure them that I will personally read what they send me. But there must also be a commitment within the profession. I am convinced that the vast majority of magistrates are serious people, of good faith. It is their responsibility, beyond current cases, to get involved in solving the problems of their profession. And I assure them, in turn, of my involvement and good faith in order to bring justice to where Romanians want it', Nicusor Dan said in a post on his Facebook account.
