Almost 1,800,000 enfranchised Bucharesters are expected to turn out at the polls on Sunday to elect the city's mayor for a term lasting until 2028.

A total of 1,289 polling stations will be organized in Bucharest, most of them in Sectors 3 and 6. Sector 1 will have 166 stations, Sector 2 - 202, Sector 3 - 294, Sector 4 - 189, Sector 5 - 198, and Sector 6 - 240.

Romanian citizens aged 18 or who turn 18 by election day, with their domicile in Bucharest or residence established there before June 7, 2025, have the right to vote in the partial local elections for the capital's mayor.

Citizens of other European Union member states with domicile in Bucharest or residence established before June 7, 2025, may also vote in these elections.

Persons under legal ban, those deprived of electoral rights by final court decision, and those declared mentally incapacitated are not entitled to vote, according to the Municipal Electoral Bureau (BEM).

Voters cast their ballots at the polling station assigned to their domicile or residence address.

Those who requested registration in the Electoral Register with their residence address before June 7, 2025 vote only at the station assigned to that residence.

Those who requested to be entered in the Electoral Register with their residence address at an address assigned to a polling station other than their home address, prior to June 7, 2025, exercise their right to vote in the partial local elections for Bucharest mayor only at the polling station where their residence address is assigned.

According to the Municipal Electoral Bureau, voters who established residence in Bucharest before June 7, 2025 but did not request registration in the Electoral Register with that address may still vote at the polling station assigned to their residence. On election day, the station president will add them to the supplementary electoral list, provided they present proof of residence.

Voters who established residence after June 7, 2025 at an address different from their domicile may vote only at the polling station corresponding to their domicile.

These provisions do not apply to voters whose residence was established before June 7, 2025 but whose residence document expired between that date and election day, if it was renewed to ensure continuity. In such cases, the polling station president will contact the General Directorate for Persons' Records with the Ministry of the Interior. If continuity of residence is confirmed, the voter may cast their ballot at the station assigned to their residence.

Polling station presidents, their deputies, bureau members, computer operators, auxiliary staff, and order staff vote at the station where they perform their duties, provided they have domicile or residence in Bucharest.

To vote in the local by-elections for Bucharest's mayor, Romanian citizens must present a valid identity document. Accepted documents include: identity card, electronic identity card, provisional identity card, diplomatic passport (regular or electronic), service passport (regular or electronic), and for military school students - the military service card.

EU citizens registered in the supplementary electoral list may vote with any valid identity document. Those not registered may vote with an identity document issued by their home state, accompanied by proof of address in Romania, or with a registration certificate or permanent residence card, upon being added to the supplementary list.

If an EU voter changes address after the supplementary list was submitted, they vote at the station covering their new residence, using a valid identity document plus a registration certificate or residence card, along with a certificate from the General Inspectorate for Immigration confirming the current address.

Identity documents must be valid on December 7. The 'Voted' stamp is not applied to electronic identity cards.

Romanian and EU citizens unable to travel due to illness or disability, supported by documents, may request to vote via a special ballot box. This can be done at the polling station assigned to their domicile or residence, or at the station covering the building where they are located.
