PartialLocalElectionPMB2025/ 17 candidates running for Bucharest general mayor
Ten representatives of political parties and seven independents, one supported by an alliance, have entered the race for the position of general mayor of the Capital in the election on 7 December.
The seat at the General City Hall was left vacant by Nicusor Dan after he won the presidential election in May, with the interim leadership ensured by Liberal politician Stelian Bujduveanu.
The 17 candidates registered in the electoral race are asking for the votes of Bucharest residents for a term that will end in 2028.
A deputy, two district mayors, a former minister, a former MEP, a journalist and an actor are among those seeking to lead Bucharest City Hall.
Initially, 18 candidates entered the race but on 21 November, before candidacies became final on 23 November, influencer Virgil-Alexandru Zidaru (Makaveli), who was running as an independent, withdrew and announced his support for Anca Alexandrescu, an independent candidate put forward by the electoral alliance 'Justice for Bucharest,' formed by the Alliance for Romanians' Union (AUR) and the Christian-Democratic National Peasants' Party (PNTCD).
At the beginning of this week, another independent candidate, Vlad Gheorghe, a former MEP, announced his support for Ciprian Ciucu, urging his voters to put the stamp on the National Liberal Party (PNL) candidate.
Eugen Teodorovici, who entered the race as an independent, also announced this week that he would support another candidate, Daniel Baluta of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).
Candidacies could be withdrawn until 23 November under legal provisions.
Thus, on 7 December Bucharest residents will need to stamp one of the candidates who have entered the battle for the Capital.
The order on the ballot paper is as follows:
Position 1 - Catalin Drula, Save Romania Union, deputy and IT engineer
Position 2 - Daniel Baluta, Social Democratic Party, mayor of Bucharest district 4, medical doctor
Position 3 - George-Valentin Burcea, Young People's Party, actor
Position 4 - Ciprian Ciucu, National Liberal Party, mayor of Bucharest district 6, graduate in political science
Position 5 - Ana-Maria Ciceala, Health Education Nature Sustainability, politician, graduate in philosophy
Position 6 - Liviu-Gheorghe Floarea, Maniu Mihalache National Peasant Party, entrepreneur
Position 7 - Gheorghe Macovei, Greater Romania Party, entrepreneur
Position 8 - Oana Cretu, United Social Democratic Party, lawyer

Position 16 - Angela Negrota, independent candidate, legal expert and entrepreneur
Position 17 - Constantin-Titian Filip, independent candidate, doctor, also ran in June 2024 for the Bucharest mayoralty
Initially, 21 candidates submitted their registration documents to the Municipal Electoral Bureau but three were rejected as two candidates had incomplete files and lacked supporter lists and one was holding party membership while filing to run as independent.
Nicusor Dan won the June elections last year for the Bucharest mayoralty as he obtained a new term as Bucharest general mayor.
In May 2025 Dan ran for the presidency and became president of Romania. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Georgiana Tanasescu; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
