The team from Dunarea de Jos University of Galati, representing Romania at the international food innovation contest ECOTROPHELIA EUROPE 2025, won the Special Prize for Communication Strategy, the award ceremony taking place on Wednesday at the ANUGA, the world's largest trade fair for the food and beverage industry, held in Germany.

According to representatives of the Galati university, this is the first time a Romanian team has received this special distinction, granted by the organisers of EEIG Ecotrophelia Europe for excellence in promoting and presenting an innovative food product.

'An effective communication strategy is essential in promoting any product - it transforms a good idea into a visible, convincing, and memorable project. Our team has shown that when science, innovation, engineering, and marketing join forces, the results are extraordinary. The product that represented our country - FoodCell - is a protein snack designed for those with an active lifestyle. Congratulations to the students and academic staff for this outstanding achievement! We are proud of you and look forward to welcoming you home with joy and gratitude - you have brought the name of our University and of Romania where it belongs: at the top of European innovation,' reads a press release issued on Wednesday by Dunarea de Jos University.

The winning team included students and academic staff from the Faculty of Food Science and Engineering (SIA), the Faculty of Engineering (FI), and the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (FEAA) within the Galati university.

ECOTROPHELIA EUROPE is organised by EEIG ECOTROPHELIA, a consortium bringing together major European food organisations including ANIA (France), FIAB (Spain), FEVIA (Belgium), SEVT (Greece) and FoodDrinkEurope, under the aegis of EIT Food.
