Nicusor Dan: Would not agree to minority government backed by Alliance for the Union of Romanians

Image

AGERPRES special correspondent Oana Ghita reports: President Nicusor Dan said on Friday that he will not accept the formation of a minority government supported by Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR).

'AUR has many flaws, but it is nonetheless a political party. I cannot imagine that, in a parliamentary vote, AUR lawmakers would fail to follow the party line. (...) In the hypothetical scenario where PNL or PSD come to me and say, 'we want a minority government with the support of AUR', I will not agree to that,' the head of state said.

He reiterated that he maintains his decision not to designate a prime minister from a potential PSD-AUR or PNL-AUR coalition, or a PNL prime minister supported in Parliament by AUR.

'I believe it is extremely unlikely that such a request will reach me,' Nicusor Dan added.

The head of state attended the informal European Council meeting in Cyprus. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Mihai Simionescu; EN - writing by: Simona Iacob)
