Romania's current account deficit goes up to EUR 13,897 million after the first six months
Over January - June 2025, the balance-of-payments current account posted a deficit of EUR 13,897 million, compared to EUR 11,682 million in the year-ago period, according to National Bank of Romania (BNR) data published on Wednesday.
The breakdown shows that the deficit on trade in goods widened by EUR 1,918 million, the surplus on services expanded by EUR 480 million, the primary income deficit decreased by EUR 111 million, while the secondary income surplus dropped by EUR 888 million.
In January - June 2025, total external debt rose by EUR 7,480 million to EUR 212,373 million, of which: long-term external debt at end-June 2025 ran at EUR 162,089 million (76.3 percent of total external debt), up 4.6 percent against end-2024, while short-term external debt at end-June 2025 amounted to EUR 50,284 million (23.7 percent of total external debt), up 0.8 percent from end-2024.
Long-term external debt service ratio stood at 15.5 percent in January - June 2025 as against 19.6 percent in 2024.
