Romania to line up 12 athletes for World Senior Fencing Championships in Tbilisi
Romania is lining up 12 athletes for the World Senior Fencing Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia, July 22 - 30, four in the men and eight in the women's events, aiming for 4th to 6th place rankings.
At the first world championships in the new Olympic cycle, the Romanian fencers will compete in sabre (women and men), foil (women) and epee (women), while in the team events they will compete in men's sabre, women's epee and women's foil.
The batch of fencers who will leave next week for Georgia:
Men's sabre: Radu Nitu, Vlad Covaliu, Razvan Ursachi, George Dragomir (coaches Valeri Sturbabin and Tiberiu Dolniceanu);
Women's sabre: Andreea Lupu (coach Valeri Sturbabin);
Women's foil: Malina Calugareanu, Rebeca Candescu, Ingrid Bikfalvi Miti (coach Florin Gheorghe);
Women's epee: Alexandra Predescu, Bianca Benea, Natalia Constantin, Theodora Ion (coach Octavian Zidaru).
At the 2023 World Championships in Milan, Malina Calugareanu had the best performance, the eighth place in the individual foil, while the best result in the team competitions was 10th place in the men's sabre.
