Image

Romania will be present at the Madrid Book Fair, held from May 30 to June 15, with a national stand and 17 literary events.

According to a press release sent Thursday to AGERPRES, Romania's participation is organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) through the National Book Centre and ICR Madrid, with support from the Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Romania to the Kingdom of Spain. The national stand and the diverse programme aim to provide wide visibility and appeal to all tastes and age groups.

Among the featured Romanian authors are Ioana Parvulescu, Lavinia Braniste, Corina Oproae, Ioana Gruia, Laura Mihon, Camelia Cavadia, Dan Lungu, Costica Bradatan and Zorann Petrovici.

Some of the most important and award-winning Spanish authors and critics, including Ángeles Mora, Amaya Iglesias, Martín López Vega, Yolanda García Serrano, Alberto Conejero, Beatriz Serrano, Alba Diz and Manuel Rico, along with international authors such as Samantha Hill and Aleksandra Lun, and translators José Francisco Arcenegui, Alina Popescu, Elena Borrás, as well as cultural journalists Carlos Javier González Serrano and Raquel Vidales, will participate in debates and presentations dedicated to Romanian authors. These contributions will help strengthen cultural ties and increase the presence of Romanian literature in the Spanish-speaking cultural space.

Events will take place at: Romania's national stand (number 386-27C) in the International Zone, Europe Pavilion, Children's Pavilion, Eugenio Trías Library (Madrid), Madrid Community Pavilion, Rafael Alberti Library and the Romanian Embassy. The schedule includes book presentations, readings, debates, round tables, workshops for children, and autograph sessions that aim to not only promote Romanian culture but also foster and expand Romanian-Spanish dialogue in the fields of literature, translation and publishing policy, according to the Romanian Cultural Institute.

At Romania's stand, visitors will find a wide range of books by Romanian authors translated into Spanish in recent years, many published with the support of ICR through its Translating and Publishing Support Programme and Publishing Romania, run by the National Book Centre, as well as a diverse selection of Romanian-language titles.

Under the motto 'Real Spaces / Imaginary Spaces', aligned with this year's fair theme, which focuses on New York, 'the city that speaks and writes in Spanish,' Romania's participation is organised in collaboration with prestigious institutions from Spain and Romania, including: the European Commission Representation in Madrid, Spanish Writers' Association (ACE), Madrid Community Public Library Network, EUNIC Madrid, Polish Institute, various libraries and distributors, Libris (Romania), Machado (Spain), Amarillo Publishing House, Baltica Publishing House, Anagarma Publishing House and Armaenia Publishing House.
