USR's Fritz believes that PSD must be part of Government: Budgetary situation is due to Ciolacu Government
The interim president of the Save Romania Union (USR), Dominic Fritz, believes that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) should remain in power and be part of a Government to 'take difficult decisions to correct' the country's economic situation.
Romania needs a 'stable' Government, supported by a 'large' majority in Parliament, in order to be able to achieve the reforms expected by Romanians, declared Dominic Fritz in a press conference held on Tuesday at the USR headquarters.
'It is obvious to everyone that the budgetary situation we are in, with a deficit of over 9%, with a country rating that is one step away from junk, that this situation is due to the Ciolacu Government. And now for PSD to somehow take a step behind the curtain and say 'Let others remain on stage, to clean up this crisis' would be neither responsible nor patriotic. I expect PSD to be part of a coalition that tries to find solutions for the situation we are in and that tries to find these solutions by putting the party's interest in the backseat and the country's interest in the foreground,' he said.
Dominic Fritz mentioned that USR will not impose a specific person for the position of prime minister, within the discussions with possible governing partners. On the other hand, he admitted that he wants Ilie Bolojan to lead the future Government.
At the same time, Fritz specified that at the USR level 'there was not even an informal discussion' about the ministries targeted in a future Government.
'I expect this Government and its formation to last and I certainly do not believe that we should accept any kind of pressure to quickly form a Government. We also see in other countries, where there is political stability, the negotiation of a new Government takes a long time, precisely because it has to be done thoroughly, in a realistic way. This balancing of needs based on limited resources has to be done with great care and with great respect for partners, and that is why you don't see me here drawing red lines,' he added.
