'Giurgiu-Ruse. Superangular' exhibition opens at Regional Museum of History in Ruse
The exhibition 'Giurgiu-Ruse. Superangular - Vintage Photography and Photographic Technique', which includes vintage photographs, cameras and images from the library of the National News Agency AGERPRES, opened this week at the Regional Museum of History in Ruse, Bulgaria, after being launched in May at the Teohari Antonescu County Museum in Giurgiu.
The travelling exhibition offers the Bulgarian public the opportunity to discover photographic testimonies about the past of the two cities and about the ties between the communities on the banks of the Danube.
The selection includes images taken in the photographic workshops of the 19th century, photographs from the interwar period and from the communist years, as well as portraits, buildings, streets and scenes from everyday life. The cameras on display round up this documentary journey, illustrating the evolution of the techniques by which images of the past were preserved.
Referring to the historical relations between the two cities, the deputy mayor of Giurgiu Ionel Muscalu, present at the event, said that 'Giurgiu and Ruse are not two cities separated from the Danube, but two communities that the Danube has learned, for centuries, to look at each other'.
The exhibition will remain open at the Regional Museum of History in Ruse throughout the end of November 2026. AGERPRES (RO - editing by: Mariana Ionescu; EN - writing by: Corneliu-Aurelian Colceriu)
