Romanian aircraft brings 18 Palestinian patients from Gaza Strip
A Romanian Air Force (RoAF) aircraft landed Wednesday evening at the 90th Airlift Base Otopeni with 18 Palestinian patients from the Gaza Strip on board, along with 29 family members.
''Romania is carrying out a new humanitarian support mission for the civilian population in the Gaza Strip. A RoAF aircraft landed with 18 Palestinian patients from the Gaza Strip, seriously affected by the lack of access to adequate medical treatment, along with 29 family members,' according to the Facebook page of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU).
According to the DSU, a C-130 Hercules aircraft of the RoAF, with 6 crew members on board, along with a UPU-SMURD medical team from the Bucharest Emergency Clinical Hospital, a medical team from the Ministry of National Defence and a liaison officer from the IGSU (General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations), took off from the Otopeni Airport around 8:00 am heading to the destination Israel - Ilan and Asaf Ramon International Airport, where it arrived at 12:00 pm.
After the medical assessment, carried out by specialized crews, the patients (mostly children) were boarded on the aircraft, together with their relatives.
Subsequently, the plane took off from the airport in Israel, around 7:00 pm.
Some of the Palestinian citizens will remain in Romania, while others will be transferred to the Kingdom of Norway, the Republic of Malta and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the same source said.
The mission is being carried out following requests received from the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC), through CECIS, within the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, and is coordinated by the Emergency Department of the Ministry of Interior, in close collaboration with several national institutions and international bodies, essential for ensuring an efficient and safe deployment.

This is the third support mission carried out this year for the civilian population in the Gaza Strip. Such actions also took place on January 15, when 12 Palestinian patients, along with 33 family members, were transferred to Romania, the French Republic, the Kingdom of Norway and the Republic of Albania, and on March 19, when 13 patients from the Gaza Strip, along with 34 family members, were transferred to Romania, the Kingdom of Norway and the French Republic.
