FinMin Nazare: Romania has the best relationship with the US at present

Image

The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, on Thursday discussed financing opportunities, infrastructure development and the involvement of American capital in major energy projects, as well as the importance of the partnership with the United States of America, with the Executive Director of the National Energy Dominance Council, the minister informed in a post on Facebook.

'I had a meeting with Jarrod Agen, Executive Director of the National Energy Dominance Council. Direct dialogue with the American centre of power confirms that Romania is in one of its best positions in recent years in its relationship with the US administration. We discussed strengthening cooperation in the energy sector, continuing the topics from previous visits to Washington: energy security, strategic investments and Romania's role as a regional energy hub. Specifically, we addressed financing opportunities, infrastructure development and the involvement of American capital in major projects in the region,' the Finance Minister wrote on his Facebook page following the meeting with the US official on Thursday.

According to him, the Council on Energy Dominance is a structure created within the White House to accelerate strategic projects, reduce bureaucracy and coordinate key institutions - from energy and the environment to trade and foreign policy. It operates as a task force with direct influence in the US administration, and Jarrod Agen is one of the key figures in shaping the energy policies of the Trump administration.

'In the current context, marked by global competition for resources and the need to reduce strategic dependencies, the meeting is of major significance. Romania is very well positioned in this context, with one of the most balanced energy mixes and the capacity to contribute to the region's energy stability,' Alexandru Nazare noted.

He also stated that, from the perspective of the Ministry of Finance, the priority is for Romania to capitalise on this opportunity by attracting investment, supporting strategic projects and strengthening its position as a predictable and competitive partner.

'The partnership with the United States, including through direct dialogue with important structures of the American administration, is essential in order to turn these opportunities into concrete results for the Romanian economy,' Alexandru Nazare added.

The Minister of Finance is taking part in the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC, United States of America, from 14 to 20 April 2026. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Andreea Marinescu; EN - writing by: Cristina Zaharia)
