Negrescu: I requested that part of money for unforseen circumstances be used to compensate tariff war
MEP Victor Negrescu from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) requested, in his capacity as chief negotiator of the EU budget for 2025, that part of the 10 billion euros set aside for unforeseen circumstances be used to compensate for the negative effects of the tariff war on European companies, including Romanian ones.

This is even more necessary since the authorities have confirmed the alarm signal I raised a few days ago regarding the risks for Romania,' Negrescu wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
He added that, during the interinstitutional meeting with representatives of the member states and the European Commission, he underscored a few clear budgetary priorities: protecting the cohesion policy and measures for the development of rural areas, maintaining allocations for already committed projects, activating the 3 billion euros allocated to Eastern European countries affected by floods - funds obtained with difficulty following negotiations, efficiently implementing the European defence loan programme worth 150 billion euros without affecting the Union's existing objectives, strategically using funds for unforeseen situations and unused funds, including to manage the direct and indirect impact of new trade tariffs.
'Also, as the European Parliament's rapporteur for the Recovery and Resilience Facility, I reiterated the need to extend the financing for mature projects, with at least 20% of execution completed, for one more year. We cannot allow strategic investments to remain blocked or construction sites to be abandoned. It is time to use every European euro wisely to protect the economy, strengthen resilience and complete projects that matter to citizens,' Victor Negrescu pointed out.
