Bucharest, April 7 /Agerpres/ - The Ministry of Labour, Family, Youth and Social Solidarity (MMFTSS) has signed a funding contract for the implementation of a project for the promotion, monitoring and assessment of the developments in the social economy and social entrepreneurship in Romania, with the aim of supporting social inclusion and reducing the marginalisation of vulnerable groups.

'Romania has had a strong tradition in the social economy, and now is the time to turn it around and make it an effective tool for job creation and social inclusion. People from vulnerable backgrounds want to work, and employers must be supported through concrete measures! I want the social economy to develop in Romania as well as it already happens in France, Spain or Italy,' said the Minister of Labour Simona Bucura Oprescu in a socal media post published on Monday.

The objectives of the new project includes the creation of modern tools for collecting and analysing data on social enterprises, including in the context of the green and digital transitions; drawing up a social economy national strategy with a clear action plan based on field research; creating a digital platform with virtual incubators, online marketplaces for social products and services, centres and networks of social entrepreneurship ambassadors; promotion and public recognition campaigns, events to increase the visibility of the sector; support for social economy entities - cooperation, exchange of good practices, connection with the public and private sectors.

The project spans 57 months, and the allocated budget amounts to EUR 3.3 million (RON 20.5 million).

The funding comes under the PEO Education and Employment Programme - Priority 4.1, with the partners in the project being the National Institute for Scientific Research in the Field of Labor and Social Protection (INCSMPS) and the National Agency for Employment (ANOFM).

Official data show that the European social economy currently provides 13.6 million paid jobs in Europe, or about 6.3% of the EU-28 economically active population, which is jobs for more than 19.1 million people. AGERPRES (RO - editing by: Daniel Badea; EN - writing by: Corneliu-Aurelian Colceriu)
