Bucharest, April 2 /Agerpres/ - As many as 1,485 young people from Romania will have an opportunity to explore Europe by train as part of the DiscoverEU initiative launched by the European Commission.

The European Commission is offering 36,000 travel passes in this round. Qualifying are young people born between July 1, 2006 (included) and June 30, 2007 (included); residing in an EU member state or in one of the third countries associated to the Erasmus+ programme: Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey.

Applications for the Spring 2025 call are open from April 2 until April 16, 2025. The selected young people may travel for a minimum period of 1 day up to a maximum of 30 days between July 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026, according to the National Agency for Education and Training Community Programmes.

Eligible young people can apply by visiting the European Youth Portal, and in order to get a free travel pass they must correctly fill in the registration form, answer a quiz about the European Union and EU opportunities for young people and a question that will facilitate the separation of those registered.

The selected young people will also get a card with over 40,000 discounted prices for public transport, culture, accommodation, food, sports and other services available in eligible countries.

Those who opt for a flexible pass will have the opportunity to book up to four places free of charge through the online system provided by the contractor in the DiscoverEU mobile app.

The DiscoverEU initiative was released in 2018 and was subsequently included in the Erasmus+ Programme. Through DiscoverEU, 18-year-olds are offered the opportunity to explore Europe's diversity, learn about its cultural heritage and history, and connect with people from all over the continent.

In the previous round in October 2024, 3,786 young people from Romania applied, 1,485 of whom received travel passes. Since 2018, approximately 40,000 young people from Romania have applied, of which almost 14,500 have received a travel pass.
