French Film Festival returns in 12 cities across Romania

The French Film Festival returns between March 20 and 30 in 12 cities across Romania, opening the 'Primavara Franceza IMPREUNA' - PRINTEMPS FRANCAIS ENSEMBLE (French Spring Together) event season, the French Institute in Cluj announced in a press release on Tuesday.

'This year's theme of the festival, Echos, explores how stories and images resonate across generations. Transmission from generation to generation, relationships, memory and renewal are at the heart of a selection that questions our era and its transformations. The festival programme, with its sections, combines essential works and films made by emerging talents, reflecting the diversity and vitality of French cinema. In Cluj-Napoca, the festival will present 13 recent French films between March 20 and 23 at Cinema Victoria,' the press release reads.

According to the quoted source, the official opening will take place on March 20 at 8:00 PM with one of the biggest box-office successes in France, the biographical musical Monsieur Aznavour, directed by Mehdi Idir and Grand Corps Malade, which earned four César Award nominations.

'The film tells the story of the famous singer Charles Aznavour, the son of Armenian refugees, who, despite all obstacles, became a symbol of French music and culture. This film is part of the Panorama section of the year's films, which brings together some of the most important recent French productions, appreciated by critics and the public. Among them, you will also find the film Jim's Story, a road trip in search of a missing father, for which Karim Leklou recently won the César Award for Best Actor, or Wild Diamond, which was in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival, offering a sharp critique of the excesses of celebrity worship,' the press release further reads.

The Young Talents - Feature Films competition highlights four films made by a new generation of filmmakers, whose works have already won over both critics and audiences. The Films for the Whole Family section offers two films adapted for younger audiences on Saturday and Sunday at 11:00 AM. Bambi: A Tale of Life in the Woods provides a realistic insight into wildlife, while Savages is an emotional animated film about freedom and the relationship between humans and nature.

The festival is organised by the French Institute in Romania. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Marius Septimiu Avram; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
