The Government adopted on Tuesday a decision on the construction of a road bridge over the Tisa River that will have its Romanian end in the Teplita area in Sighetul Marmatiei, said government spokesman Mihai Constantin.

"I would also like to point out the progress made in the intensification of bilateral relations between Romania and Ukraine, an effect of the government meeting between the two countries, which took place last October in Kyiv. I announced at that time the opening of the border crossing point across the Tisa River between Sighetul Marmatiei and Biserica Alba in Ukraine. Today, by Government decision, it was decided to build a road bridge across the river Tisa with the Romanian end in the Teplita area of Sighetul Marmatiei. Also, by agreement between the governments of the two countries, a joint committee will be set up to coordinate all activities related to the construction of this infrastructure objective," said Constantin.

According to him, in the medium and long term the project is part of the Romania-Ukraine-Slovakia and Hungary programme of sectoral cooperation between the border regions involved.

"It is about the coordination of integrated development efforts at the level of the border region of north-western Romania, north-eastern Hungary, south-western Ukraine and south-eastern Slovakia," Constantin added.
