Two students from the University of Brasov to represent Romania at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026
Transilvania University of Brasov will be represented at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, the world's largest international competition for vocational and technical skills, by a team comprising two students and one expert, according to a press release issued on Friday by the university.
The two Brasov students, Miruna-Ioana Ungureanu and Dumitru-Vlad Crepse, both from the Faculty of Product Design and Environment, will compete in the Mechatronics event, one of the 11 competition categories in which Romania is represented at this year's edition.
'The Mechatronics competition is part of the Manufacturing and Engineering Technology category and is, as always, one of the most interesting, demanding and complex events. Over the course of four days, competitors must demonstrate their skills in mechanical, electrical and pneumatic assembly, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting and the optimisation of complex mechatronic systems. The Brasov team's training is taking place at the Mechatronics Centre of Excellence within the Faculty of Product Design and Environment. (...) WorldSkills, widely regarded as the equivalent of the Olympic Games for vocational skills, brings together around 1,400 competitors from more than 70 countries and regions, who showcase their abilities across 64 competition categories, ranging from information technology, mechatronics and robotics to manufacturing, construction and services,' the press release said.
In recent years, the university's mechatronics students have won three Medallions for Excellence at EuroSkills Gdansk 2023, WorldSkills Lyon 2024 and EuroSkills Herning 2025, as well as the Best of Nation Award, presented last year to the Romanian competition category that achieved the country's best overall result.
Romania will take part in WorldSkills Shanghai from 22 to 27 September with a delegation of 45 people, including competitors, experts, support staff and observers. The country's participation is coordinated by WorldSkills Romania, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Research, educational institutions and business partners, with support from the Erasmus+ programme.
