ANSVSA negotiates agreement in Ankara to facilitate transit of sheep and cattle carcasses through Türkiye
The National Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) negotiated in Ankara the establishment of an agreement to facilitate the transit of sheep and cattle carcasses through Türkiye, a measure that provides major logistical advantages for access to Middle Eastern markets.
According to an ANSVSA release sent to AGERPRES on Friday, the technical negotiations will continue in the near future.
ANSVSA President Alexandru Nicolae Bociu was part of Romania's official delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister and interim Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tanczos Barna, which carried out a working visit to Ankara, Türkiye, on 5-6 August.
Within the visit, the ANSVSA head carried out technical discussions with counterparts from the competent authority in the Republic of Türkiye.
The discussions focused on analysing the veterinary health regulations governing the direct export of cattle and sheep carcasses from Romania.
The importance of close institutional cooperation to prevent, monitor and effectively combat veterinary health risks with a major impact on the livestock sector was also highlighted.
Opportunities to expand trade exchanges in this strategic sector were also analysed. The discussions highlighted genuine interest from the Turkish side in importing agri-food products from Romania, opening up new prospects for Romanian producers.
At the same time, cooperation and prior notification mechanisms were established in order to reduce the risk of border disruptions and to harmonise food safety standards and procedures.
The visit, organised at the initiative of the Romanian side, focused on analysing issues of common interest and identifying concrete measures to strengthen agri-food cooperation with the Republic of Türkiye, one of Romania's main trading partners outside the European Union and the leading destination for Romania's extra-EU exports.
