A new edition of the European Castles Fair takes place on Friday and Saturday in the Hussars' Court of the Corvin Castle in Hunedoara, 21 exhibitors from the country presenting the tourism offer for the interested public.

Among the promoted tourist attractions there are fortresses, palaces, castles and museums, but also memorial houses or tourist information centers, the fair proposing to ensure a better visibility of the tourist attractions in western Hunedoara County and in Romania.

"Before the pandemic, we could boast that we had reached the figure of 500,000 visitors. The pandemic has significantly diminished the number of visitors, but slowly we are re-entering normalcy. We hope that the wretched war in the ex-Soviet space will stop and you will see that the tourists will be more and more at the Castle. The promotion is done primarily by the City Hall team and the administration of the historical objective, and no financial effort is too great to promote the Corvin Castle (also known as Hunyadi Castle). You can't promote if you don't create and if you don't invest," said the mayor of Hunedoara, Dan Boboutanu, on the occasion of the official opening of the fair.

According to him, Corvin Castle has become an important contributor to the local budget, given that the taxes and tickets collected by it gather funds that exceed the budget collected from the taxes and fees paid, for one year, by individuals from Hunedoara municipality.

The organizers of the European Castles Fair have prepared for Friday and Saturday an interactive programme with the public, which will consist of medieval battles, dances, archery lectures or sword lectures supported by the Order of the Knights of Hunedoara and the Carpathian Castle Association.

In the evening, the show will move to Corvin Pedestrian where, between 20:00 and 22:00, there will be street animation shows. Thus, on Friday evening, in the center of the city, medieval dances and demonstrations of battles can be followed, as well as a fire show and other special effects. On Saturday evening, also on Corvin Pedestrian, in the same time interval, there will be an interactive program of illusionism and magic.

Within this edition of the European Castles Fair was included the exhibition of painting dubbed "Cultural routes - castles and fortresses in Romania", arranged in the Bethlen Living Room of the Corvin Castle.

The Hunedoara Castle was visited last year by over 276,000 tourists, up by 37 pct compared to 2020, the year when tourism around the world suffered a strong rebound due to the triggering of the COVID-19 pandemic.AGERPRES(RO - author: Sorin Blada, editor: Georgiana Tanasescu; EN - editor: Maria Voican)
