Elisabeta Palace to host The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award ceremony on Thursday
Her Majesty Margareta will host the ceremony for the presentation of the insignia of the highest distinction awarded under the The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award programme at Elisabeta Palace on Thursday.
'Ninety students representing seven prestigious schools in Romania have completed the Award programme and will therefore receive the highest distinction granted by the organisation (Royal School in Transylvania, Cambridge School, Transylvania College, Asociatia Turul Madar of Sfantu Gheorghe, School of Bucharest, Avenor College and Decebal Theoretical High School of Constanta),' the Press Office of the House of Her Majesty the Custodian of the Crown announced on Wednesday.
Her Royal Highness Princess Sofia of Romania will also attend the event, which is scheduled to begin at 16:00.
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, created The Duke of Edinburgh's Award in 1956 to support the physical, mental and moral development of young people, particularly those from less advantaged backgrounds. The foundation is regarded as an outstanding example of social engagement and contribution to young people's education in areas complementary to formal schooling.
The programme is currently active in 144 countries and more than 10 million young people have benefited from its activities. In Romania, the organisation has operated since 2013 under the High Patronage of Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown.
