Climber Adrian Ahritculesei conquers Denali in Alaska and completes Seven Summits
Climber Adrian Ahritculesei reached on Friday morning Mount McKinley - Denali (6,194 metres) in Alaska, the highest peak in North America, thereby completing the Seven Summits circuit, which includes the tallest peaks on each continent, including Everest.
'Adrian reached the summit of Denali at around 4:00 a.m. Romanian time, completing the Seven Summits circuit, which brings together the highest peaks on each continent. This was Adrian's most challenging expedition to date. He carried all his equipment and food himself on the mountain, which required extra effort. The weather was not ideal for the ascent, but he succeeded,' athlete's manager Stefan Adrian Jurca told to AGERPRES.
The accomplishment of climber Adrian Ahritculesei from Petrosani is even more significant, as he also completed the Seven Volcanic Summits in January 2023, a challenge that includes the seven highest volcanoes in the world.
'With this double record, Adrian joins the global elite of climbers. As far as I know, fewer than 40 climbers worldwide can claim to have completed both circuits - Seven Summits and Seven Volcanic Summits,' the athlete's representative said.
Adrian Ahritculesei set out for Alaska on 1 June with the declared goal of climbing the last peak remaining in his international Seven Summits.
'I am ready for this expedition,' the athlete said as he departed from Romania.
The Alaska expedition was scheduled for 1-21 June, with Ahritculesei climbing Denali as an independent climber.
Adrian Ahritculesei had previously attempted to climb Denali in July 2025, but was forced to abandon the ascent due to high avalanche risk and adverse weather conditions.
In addition, the Romanian climber reached the South Pole on 9 January 2026 during his Antarctic expedition, when he conquered Mount Vinson (4,892 metres), the highest peak on the continent.
A graduate of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport in Timisoara, Adrian Ahritculesei, aged 42, works as an optometrist for a company in Petrosani and has two children. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Sorin Blada; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
