Astra Film Festival to present more than 70 documentaries to filmgoers in Sibiu
Over 70 documentaries from all over the world, of which 65 are world, European or national premieres, are part of the official selection of this year's edition of the Astra Film Festival, a traditional event dedicated to non-fiction cinema, which will begin on Friday evening, with a gala, in Sibiu, according to the Sibiu City Hall.
The films compete in five sections - Romania, Eastern Europe, Emerging Voices, DocSchool and, the novelty of this edition, DocShorts - and are grouped into 11 thematic sections, which explore current topics such as: ''Woman/Mother - At What Price'', ''Masculinity in Crisis'', ''How to Become an Adult, How to Become a Parent'', ''When the Press Becomes a Fake News Factory'', ''The West - a Critical Look'', ''Dictatorships - a Survival Guide for Their Possible Return'', ''On Both Sides of the Bloody Front'', ''Neo-fascism Online and Offline'', ''Our Lives Online'', ''Art as a Tool for Self-Exploration and Healing'' and ''Family Film Weekend''.
The festival, which was extended to a period of 10 days, will take place between October 17 and 26 and promises a record-breaking edition. Two-thirds of the films will be available to watch online for two weeks after the Awards Gala, offering the public the opportunity to explore in depth one of the most extensive selections in the event's 32-year history.
Astra Film Junior, the most comprehensive documentary film education programme in Romania, also continues. Young viewers will be able to watch documentaries, animations and short films on topics relevant to the younger generation - identity, migration, war, ecology, digital culture, hate speech, sports and emotional health. The programme includes guided discussions, training for teachers, a comic book competition and a visual storytelling workshop entitled ''From volunteer to influencer''.

The Astra Film Festival is organized by the Astra Film Foundation and co-financed by the Sibiu City Hall through the Cultural Agenda 2025.
