President signs into law acts related to NRRP milestones, SAFE Agreement ratification

Image

President Nicusor Dan announced on Tuesday that he has promulgated a series of laws needed to meet NRRP milestones and for the ratification of the SAFE Agreement.

'This evening I promulgated a series of laws required for fulfilling critical NRRP milestones, as well as for the ratification of the SAFE Agreement - regulatory acts that relate to the state's ability to honour its commitments and seize development opportunities. Romania's access to major EU funds for modernisation and investment is thus guaranteed. For Romanians, NRRP funds mean better services and improved quality of life, because they mean money for new hospitals, modernised schools, and highways. These funds also mean reforms that ensure a more efficient functioning of the state, such as the Administrative Code and the project through which ANAF and Customs employees who exceed collection targets or uncover major fraud will receive bonuses,' the president wrote on X.

He added that another important project is the Urban Planning Code, which he described as an essential step toward clarifying and modernising urban development, integrating the results of the referendum validated by Bucharest residents that he initiated in 2024.

'It is a very good signal, because democracy means not only organising a referendum, but also turning citizens' will into legislative decisions,' Nicusor Dan underscored.

The president also said that the laws adopted by Parliament in recent days and now promulgated are a good example of political conduct focused on priority objectives, with less emphasis on conflict.

In this way, he added, rating agencies' confidence in Romania is maintained, which also encourages investors to keep their interest in the country.

'I also followed closely today's debates on amending decarbonisation legislation. The national interest means both energy security and respecting Romania's commitments, as well as protecting the country's economic and financial stability. If Parliament adopts the law in the form resulting from committee work, I will analyse it with maximum responsibility and use all constitutional prerogatives, including requesting re-examination, so that Romania can submit the remaining payment requests and does not lose billions of euros from the NRRP,' the president concluded.
