Arcadia Troupe wins Puppet Creation Award at International Animation Festival
Arcadia Troupe of the Regina Maria Theatre won the Puppet Creation Award at the 'Sub Bagheta lui Merlin/Under Merlin's Magic Wand' International Animation Festival, organized by the Merlin Children's and Youth Theatre in Timisoara, for the show 'Frederick the Mouse - I Know Who I Am', written by Ana Craciun Lambru and inspired by Leo Lionni's book 'Frederick.'
According to a release from the Oradea theatre, the 2025 edition of the festival took place between September 28 and October 5, marking ten years since the launch of one of Romania's most important animation theatre events.
The festival brought together puppet and animation theatre troupes from across the country — Timisoara, Oradea, Braila, Galati, Brasov, Alba Iulia, Bucharest, Craiova, and Petrosani — as well as international guests from Moldova, Hungary, Israel, Spain, and Poland.
A distinctive feature of this year's edition was its competitive format, with performances evaluated by a specialized jury composed of Maria Cuta Gornic (puppet actor and director), Jelena Stojanovic Patrnogic (director of the Kragujevac Children's and Youth Theatre and of the 'Zlatna Iskra' International Puppet Theatre Festival in Serbia), and Claudiu Groza (theatre scholar and curator), who chaired the jury.
The jury presented ten awards in total, recognizing excellence in directing, best performance, acting (lead and supporting roles), puppetry (lead and supporting roles), puppet creation, music, visual design, and a special award for valuing tradition.
Arcadia Troupe opened the competition with 'Frederick the Mouse - I Know Who I Am', which was enthusiastically received by both the audience and the jury.
The Puppet Creation Award was presented to creators Razvan Chendrean and Ana Craciun Lambru, being one of only three trophies awarded to Romanian theatres this year.
'Congratulations to the team! Many thanks to the organizers for the invitation and to the jury for the recognition. Arcadia Troupe now sets out on new adventures: performances, projects, and festivals,' the theatre said in its release. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Eugenia Pasca; EN - writing by: Simona Iacob)
