BrancusiYear/ Brancusi celebrated in Madrid with special concert event
The Embassy of Romania in the Kingdom of Spain and the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid organised on April 15 the sixth concert of the international tour BrancuSING, hosted by the Real Casino de Madrid, a landmark of the city's cultural life. Dedicated to the work of pioneering sculptor Constantin Brancusi, the event was part of the Brancusi Year celebrations and also marked 145 years of diplomatic relations between Romania and Spain, as well as 20 years of activity of the Romanian Cultural Institute in Madrid.
In her opening remarks, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Raluca Mihaila underlined the importance of Brancusi's legacy, noting that his innovative style 'crossed the barriers of tradition, conveying through the simplicity of form the essence of his art.' The audience was invited to a complex artistic experience in which music, cultural discourse and visual projections highlighted the dialogue between sculpture, sound and space, the Embassy said in a release on Friday.
Soprano Rodica Vica, one of the most acclaimed voices of her generation, delivered a refined performance spanning repertoires from baroque to contemporary music. She was accompanied by pianist Angela Draghicescu, whose sensitivity and precision supported the coherence and depth of the program.
The evening featured works by Erik Satie, Anton Pann, George Gershwin and Agustín Lara, along with two world-premiere song cycles by composers Sabina Ulubeanu and Radu Mihalache, both inspired by Brancusi's thought and aesthetics.
