Camelia Ciripan wins bronze medal in table tennis at Paris's Paralympic Games
Romanian player Camelia Ciripan won the bronze medal in the women's singles para table tennis event (WS6) on Saturday at the Paralympic Games in Paris, after being defeated in the semi-finals by Ukrainian Marina Litovchenko, 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-5), announced the National Sports Agency (ANS) on its Facebook page.
"Although Camelia fought hard and managed to win 17 points, her opponent dominated the match, with a maximum advantage of 7 consecutive points. Our athlete also had bright moments, managing to win 10 points on her own serve, but she did not manage to match the pace set by the Ukrainian," the ANS said.
"What is really important is Camelia's success in bringing the much-desired medal, right from her first participation in the Paralympic Games," the ANS added.
Camelia Ciripan, 45, named the 2022 athlete of the year in Romanian Paralympic sport, following the bronze medal obtained at the World Para Table Tennis Championships in Spain, was Romania's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Paris .
The bronze medal won by Camelia Ciripan comes a day after the Romanian athlete Florin-Alexandru Bologa won the gold medal in judo for the blind, cat. 73 kg (J1), at the Paralympic Games in Paris, after defeating the Kazakh Iergali Samei in the final, by ippon.
