Cazino Music Festival to feature Romana Amerling and The Henry Love Group on 10 and 11 October
The Cazino Music Festival stage will become, on 10 and 11 October, a space for cosmopolitan music from the first half of the 20th century, in a concert where Vienna and Paris meet New York and the rhythms of Brazil, the organisers of the festival held in Constanta informed on Monday.
According to the quoted source, from Cole Porter and George Gershwin to Edith Piaf, Kurt Weill and Franz Lehar, the programme proposed by Viennese soprano Romana Amerling and The Henry Love Group brings to the Cazino Music Festival the music of an era when opera, operetta, jazz, chanson and cabaret circulated freely between the major European capitals and America.
'At the centre of this project is Romana Amerling, a Viennese soprano known for her broad repertoire and her interest in music at the intersection of classical vocal tradition, jazz and musical theatre. An important part of her recent work has been dedicated to Viennese composer Hilde Loewe, an artist who published under the name Henry Love and whose music remained outside the mainstream repertoire for decades. (...) Alongside her, The Henry Love Group brings together four musicians with distinct backgrounds. On piano is Nobuo Watanabe, a specialist in 1920s jazz, while the double bass is played by Herbert Mayr, former principal double bassist of the Vienna Philharmonic, and Sebastian Baumgartner, who is active in contemporary jazz and improvised music, is on drums,' according to the organisers' release.
The programme is structured like a musical map of an era when styles and influences met without rigid borders. The first part belongs to Cole Porter, with 'Night and Day,' 'Just One of Those Things,' 'Begin the Beguine' and 'It's De-Lovely,' continues with the world of Kurt Weill and reaches George Gershwin through 'I've Got a Crush on You' and 'Summertime.'
After the interval, the repertoire moves towards Paris, with Edith Piaf's 'La Vie en rose' and 'Sous le ciel de Paris,' then to Antonio Carlos Jobim's Brazil, with 'The Girl from Ipanema.' The programme also includes works by Xavier Montsalvatge, as well as four pieces by Henry Love, bringing back to the centre of the evening the artistic recovery project that defines Romana Amerling's work.
The recital concludes with two of the best-known pieces from the Viennese operetta repertoire by Franz Lehar: 'Vilja-Lied' and 'Meine Lippen, sie kussen so heiss.'
The first edition of the Cazino Music Festival takes place from 12 September to 22 November at the Constanta Casino, under the artistic direction of Ioan Holender, with audiences able to attend classical music concerts over 11 weekends.
Tickets are available from the Casino's ticket office, from the ticket machines located on the promenade by the heritage building, as well as online on the Casino's official website.
The festival is organised by the Constanta Casino, in partnership with the Mamaia-Constanta Destination Management Organisation (DMO). AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Nona Jalba; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
