Romanian, Hungarian chiefs of defence discuss regional security
Chief of Defence General Gheorghita Vlad met on Thursday with his Hungarian counterpart, General Zsolt Sandor, to discuss regional security and bilateral defence cooperation.
According to a Ministry of national Defence (MApN) press release sent to AGERPRES, the agenda covered the regional security situation, bilateral military cooperation, and the two countries' contribution to strengthening NATO's deterrence and defence posture on the Alliance's Eastern Flank.
'The two chiefs of defence reviewed opportunities to expand joint training, participation in multinational exercises and closer cooperation between the military structures of the two countries. The talks also addressed military mobility and coordination within regional initiatives and NATO structures,' the ministry said.
The discussions also highlighted the experience gained through the activities of the Romanian-Hungarian Mixed Peace Support Battalion, as well as regional cooperation within the multinational TISA Engineer Battalion.
'Romania and Hungary are allied and neighbouring countries, and the security of our region requires dialogue, coordination and the ability to act together. Cooperation between our armed forces rests on a solid foundation, and our objective is to further develop it through joint training and concrete projects relevant to today's security requirements and NATO's collective defence,' General Gheorghita Vlad was quoted as saying in the MApN press release.
