Romanian judoka Laura Bogdan won the bronze medal in the women's 48 kg category on Sunday at the European Judo Open in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, after defeating Austria's Jacqueline Springer in the bronze medal contest.

Bogdan began her campaign directly in the round of 16, where she defeated Italy's Elisa Adrasti, before losing her quarterfinal bout to another Italian, Sofia Mazzola. In the repechage, the Romanian overcame a third Italian opponent, Rebecca Valeriani, to earn a place in the bronze medal match, where she won.

In the women's 52 kg category, Luciana Catana defeated Germany's Hannah Frobenius in the opening round and then beat Spain's Laura Gomez Antona in the round of 16. She was, however, defeated in the quarter-finals by Morocco's Soumiya Iraoui. In the repechage, Catana lost to Spain's Monica Martinez de Rituerto Morillas, who went on to claim the bronze medal.

Romania finished the European Open in Sarajevo with a total of five medals: one gold (Florentina Ivanescu, 63 kg), two silver (Amanda Zuaznabar-Torres, 63 kg, and Maidelines Gorguet-Veranes, 78 kg), and two bronze (Thalia Castellano Narino, +78 kg, and Laura Bogdan, 48 kg). Romania placed fourth in the overall medals table. Germany topped the standings with two gold, two silver and four bronze medals, followed by Serbia (two gold, one silver and four bronze) and Georgia (two gold and one bronze).
