President Dan unsupportive of early elections, says they would only prolong uncertainty
Early elections would only drag out the state of uncertainty without bringing anything new, President Nicusor Dan told a press conference on Tuesday at the Romanian Embassy in Paris, after he participated in the festivities dedicated to France's National Day.
'In yesterday's discussions, as well as in informal ones I had, very little was said about early elections, because they would prolong the state of uncertainty and wouldn't in fact bring anything new, since all the polls tell us we would end up roughly in the same place, without a possibility to form a majority, without a discussion between exactly the same parties that are unable to have a dialogue now. So I don't see the point of early elections,' the head of the state explained.
He added that he hopes for 'reasonableness' to prevail in further developments. 'We haven't set a calendar. I hope the discussions to follow will produce a solution,' Nicusor Dan said. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Catalina Matei; EN - writing by: Simona Klodnischi)
