Trade between Romania and Syria has significant growth potential
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR) and representatives of the Syrian Arab Republic analyzed the relaunch of bilateral economic relations, the organization of a Romania-Syria business forum and the development of new logistics corridors between the two states, during a meeting held at the request of the Syrian side.
According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, the president of the CCIR had a meeting on Thursday, July 9, with Anas Radwan Albadawi, chargé d'affaires of the Syrian Arab Republic in Romania, which was also attended by representatives of the leadership of the Syria-Romania Business Council.
The discussions took place at the request of the Syrian side and aimed at the resumption and reorganization of economic relations between the two states, notes the cited source.
'During the meeting, the potential for trade development, investment opportunities in sectors such as energy, agriculture, construction, petrochemicals and the cement industry, the organization of a Romania-Syria business forum, as well as the development of new logistics corridors between the two countries (by connecting the ports of Constanta and Tartous) were analyzed,' the press release reads.
At the same time, the Romanian side extended an official invitation to Syrian partners to participate in this year's edition of the Indagra fair.
'Trade between Romania and Syria has significant growth potential, and the Syrian business community in Romania (about 2,060 companies with Syrian capital) can play an essential role in the development of bilateral economic relations,' said Mihai Daraban, quoted in the press release.
In turn, Anas Radwan Albadawi stressed that the Syrian authorities want to relaunch economic relations with Romania and develop joint projects within the process of rebuilding the Syrian economy.
In this context, the Syrian side launched the official invitation for a CCIR delegation to visit Syria for discussions at the level of central authorities and with the local business environment, in order to identify concrete projects for economic cooperation.
