Newest corvette of Romanian Naval Forces to arrive in Constanta military port on Friday
The new corvette of the Romanian Naval Forces, 'Rear Admiral August Roman' - 261, will arrive on Friday in the military port of Constanta.
''A moment with a strong symbolic charge took place in the Black Sea, where the new corvette of the Romanian Naval Forces, 'Rear Admiral August Roman' - 261, on the deployment march to Constanta, met for the first time with the Frigate 'Regele Ferdinand' - 221. The two military ships gave their traditional naval salute, thus marking the first interaction of the newest combat ship of the Naval Forces with a T 22 R type frigate'', the Ministry of Defense informed on Thursday.
According to the cited source, this event symbolizes the integration of the new corvette into the operational structures of the Romanian Naval Forces and opens a new chapter in the modernization process of the Fleet.
''In the maritime tradition, the greeting between two military ships is not just a gesture of courtesy, but one of respect and recognition between the crews,'' the cited source informs.
The frigate 'King Ferdinand' is one of the ships with the richest operational experience and with numerous NATO and EU missions and operations executed, and during this period it is participating in the multinational Exercise BREEZE 2026, organized by the Bulgarian Naval Forces.
The interaction between the veteran frigate of the theaters of operations and the newest corvette also represented the first training sequence of the Corvette 'Rear Admiral August Roman' - 261 in common with a ship belonging to the Romanian Naval Forces.
The ship's arrival at the military port is scheduled for Friday, after the end of the training period carried out in Turkey and the march to the country.
The corvette, built in Turkey and officially entered the service of the Romanian Naval Forces on June 20, represents the newest and most modern naval platform in the Romanian Naval Forces, being intended for surveillance, patrol, surface combat, anti-aircraft and anti-submarine defense missions, informs the Ministry of Defense.
