FITS 2026/Brukenthal Palace extends visiting hours during theatre festival (19-28 June)
The Brukenthal National Museum is extending the opening hours of Brukenthal Palace from 19 to 28 June during the Sibiu International Theatre Festival in order to accommodate the large number of visitors expected to attend cultural events, according to an announcement published on the institution's Facebook page.
'During the period 19-28 June, throughout the 2026 edition of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival, Brukenthal Palace will extend its visiting hours as follows: Monday to Sunday, 10:00-18:00. The ticket office closes at 17:15,' representatives of the Sibiu museum announced.
The Brukenthal National Museum is expecting a higher number of visitors during FITS and its recommendation for Friday, the festival's opening day, is the exhibition dedicated to painter Stefan Caltia at Brukenthal Palace, inspired in part by the oldest herbarium in Transylvania, housed at the Natural History Museum, the institution's manager, Raluca Teodorescu, told AGERPRES.
'Based on the experience of previous years, FITS brings a significant number of visitors and not only a substantial increase in visitor numbers, but also a qualitative improvement in the museum experience they enjoy at the Brukenthal National Museum. The recommendation (...) at Brukenthal Palace is the capsule exhibition dedicated to Stefan Caltia, featuring a number of works created by Stefan Caltia inspired by pieces from the Brukenthal National Museum collection, such as the oldest herbarium in Transylvania,' said Raluca Teodorescu.
According to her, Brukenthal Palace and the Contemporary Art Gallery will host five exhibitions as part of FITS, while military band concerts will take place in the courtyards of the History Museum and the Palace.
For Friday, the first day of FITS, the museum recommends the capsule exhibition dedicated to Stefan Caltia, part of the Transylvania | Extravaganza project, which can be visited at Brukenthal Palace from 19 June to 16 August.
The main exhibition, Transylvania | Extravaganza, which brings together more than 80 works by Stefan Caltia and is hosted at the Ursuline Monastery, can be visited with a separate ticket, while the exhibition at Brukenthal Palace is included in the museum admission ticket.
According to the festival's president, actor Constantin Chiriac, FITS will bring together more than 5,000 artists from 83 countries and will include 848 events, eight more than at the previous edition.
