ANM issues Code Yellow heat warnings in 18 counties on Saturday and Sunday
The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued on Friday two Code Yellow heat warnings, the first valid on Saturday in 14 counties and the second on Sunday in 18 counties, amid an intensifying heatwave.
Meteorologists also issued a weather advisory for high temperatures and thermal discomfort, valid for the rest of the country until Monday evening.
Thus, during Saturday, between 12:00 and 21:00, in Crisana, Banat, Maramures, western and central Transylvania and western Oltenia, significantly high temperatures for this time of year will be recorded. Maximum temperatures will range between 30 and 34 degrees, with the highest values in the West Plain, where the temperature-humidity index (THI) will also locally reach the critical threshold of 80 units.
The counties affected by this first Code Yellow heatwave warning are: Alba, Arad, Bihor, Bistrita-Nasaud, Cluj, Caras-Severin, Hunedoara, Mehedinti, Maramures, Mures, Sibiu, Salaj, Satu Mare and Timis.
Specialist forecast shows that on Sunday, between 12:00 and 21:00, a second Code Yellow warning for unusually hot weather will be in force in parts of Banat, Crisana, Maramures, Oltenia and western and central Transylvania, where maximum temperatures will range between 31 and 36 degrees, with the highest values in the west and south-west. The temperature-humidity index will also reach and slightly exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.
The areas targeted by the warning are the counties of Alba, Arad, Bihor, Bistrita-Nasaud, Cluj, Caras-Severin, Dolj, Gorj, Hunedoara, Mehedinti, Maramures, Mures, Olt, Sibiu, Salaj, Satu Mare, Timis and Valcea.
At the same time, between 19 June at 10:00 and 22 June at 21:00, a weather advisory for hot weather, locally heatwave conditions and thermal discomfort will be in effect across most of the country. Thus, maximum temperatures on Friday (19 June) will range between 24 and 25 degrees on the coast, respectively up to 32 degrees in the west and south-west, then will increase, with values of up to 34-36 degrees recorded on Sunday and Monday.
