The 'Acad. Andrei Radulescu' Institute of Legal Research of the Romanian Academy announced the establishment of the Romanian Hub of the European Law Institute (ELI), marking a reference moment for Romania's positioning at the centre of European legal dialogue.

The launch of the Romanian Hub will take place on 16 June in the Aula of the Romanian Academy, in the presence of the President of the European Law Institute, Professor Teresa Rodriguez de las Heras Ballell, PhD. Her participation underlines the strategic importance of this initiative for strengthening Romania's role in European legal cooperation, the Romanian Academy said on Friday.

'Through this initiative, Romania becomes an active part of a network that can directly influence the evolution of European law and contribute to the consolidation of a common legal space based on excellence, cooperation and innovation. The establishment of the Romanian Hub of the ELI represents a strategic initiative for Romania, offering an institutional framework through which the national legal community connects directly to major European debates and projects, actively contributing to shaping European law,' the Academy underscored.

The ELI Romanian Hub is currently coordinated by a team of co-chairs who bring together complementary expertise from academia, the judiciary and professional practice. The team reflects the convergence of European Union law, constitutional law, private law, civil procedure, comparative law and judicial practice, ensuring a strong link between academic research, judicial activity and developments in European law.

Leading figures from the Romanian and international legal community make up the Advisory Committee of the Romanian Hub of the European Law Institute.

The headquarters and secretariat of the Romanian Hub of the European Law Institute are located at the 'Acad. Andrei Radulescu' Institute of Legal Research of the Romanian Academy.

***
Founded 15 years ago in June 2011, the European Law Institute is an independent non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the quality of law and strengthening legal integration in Europe.

With more than 1,800 individual members, including current and former judges, lawyers, legal advisers, notaries, public officials, prosecutors, researchers and university lecturers (more than 50 from Romania), and over 180 institutional members (including 10 from Romania), the ELI represents one of the most influential legal communities internationally.

Beyond universities and research institutes, the ELI brings together leading institutions of the European and international legal architecture, such as the European Parliament, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law, as well as key organisations for international legal cooperation such as the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the EFTA Surveillance Authority.

At the same time, numerous supreme and constitutional courts across Europe are involved in the ELI's work, giving this network remarkable authority in legal reflection and reform processes. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Daniel Popescu; EN - writing by: Adina Panaitescu)
