The drone carrying explosives that crashed in Galati represents an unacceptable violation of Romanian airspace and further evidence of the risks generated by the aggression of the Russian Federation, Senate President Mircea Abrudean said on Friday.

'We condemn the violation of Romania's airspace and any action that endangers public security. Romania cannot accept the fact that citizens were injured and buildings were damaged. We must act firmly now, not only at the level of declarations, both diplomatically and in terms of strengthening defence capabilities, in order to protect citizens and national security,' he wrote on Facebook.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed Romania's allies and the Secretary General of NATO about the circumstances and requested measures to accelerate the transfer of anti-drone capabilities to Romania, Abrudean noted.

'The message is clear: Romania will defend its territory, its citizens and its values, in full coordination with its partners in NATO and the European Union,' the Senate President added.

During the night from Thursday to Friday, a drone crashed into an apartment block in Galati. Two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Georgiana Tanasescu; EN - writing by: Cristina Zaharia)
