Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Senator Antal Lorand delivered on Sunday, at the National Liberal Party (PNL) Extraordinary Congress, the message of UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor, stressing in his speech the importance of cooperation between democratic political parties in strengthening Romania's stability and development.

The UDMR representative said that the presence of the Union at the Liberal Congress represents 'normality', pointing out that the relationship between the UDMR and the PNL has historically been based on mutual respect and cooperation.

The senator also spoke about the history of relations between the two formations, which have gone through both periods of cooperation and moments of political distance, highlighting the results achieved when the PNL and UDMR have been partners.

According to him, there have been periods in which the two parties built together, contributed to Romania's development and to the consolidation of democracy, saying 'no' to those promoting extremism and a 'toxic sovereigntism.'

In his speech, the UDMR representative referred to the difficult context Romania is confronted with, mentioning rising inflation, geopolitical crises in the region and the internal political crisis.

'The solution for stability is a willingness to compromise, the search for healthy, constructive political partnerships and, perhaps, the redefinition of a new national project. But this time, perhaps for real, a country project with clear objectives, commitments and the pursuit of their implementation, so that it does not remain only on paper, as Romania has experienced before, step by step. For a national project we need a stable pro-European majority in Parliament and support for the Government from this majority. We, the representatives of the UDMR, led by President Kelemen Hunor, have never shied away from responsibility, we have never avoided work and whenever it was needed we have given full support to build a stronger and more solid Romania,' the UDMR senator added.
