President Dan travels to Paris for France's National Day
President Nicusor Dan will travel to Paris on Monday and Tuesday to attend the Coalition of the Willing meeting on Ukraine and the ceremonies marking France's National Day.
The visit is taking place at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, the Romanian Presidential Administration informs on Saturday.
According to a press release sent to AGERPRES, the Romanian president's participation in the Paris ceremonies reflects the strength of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and France, as well as the close ties between the two countries and their peoples. The year 2026 also marks the centenary of the Franco-Romanian Treaty of Friendship, a symbol of solidarity and shared commitment to European security.
This year's military parade on the Champs-Elysees is being held under the theme 'Europe's Strategic Awakening'.
Romania will be represented by 22 soldiers from the 30th 'Mihai Viteazul' Guards Brigade, including the Colour Party and a platoon.
The president's agenda also includes participation in the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing for Ukraine, a format launched in 2025 and jointly coordinated by France and the United Kingdom, bringing together 35 countries committed to supporting Ukraine through robust security guarantees.
The coalition aims, following the conclusion of an agreement between the parties to the conflict, to help preserve peace and prevent any renewed aggression against Ukraine.
In his address, President Nicusor Dan will stress the direct link between Ukraine's security and Europe's security, with particular emphasis on NATO's and the European Union's Eastern Flank, the Presidential Administration said.
The Romanian head of state will reaffirm that continued support for Ukraine across all relevant areas remains essential for the stability and security of the entire region.
He will also underline the need for Ukraine to be able to negotiate an end to the war from a position of strength, so that any peace achieved is both lasting and just. In this context, the Coalition of the Willing is expected to play a key role in implementing comprehensive security guarantees aimed at strengthening the security of the wider Black Sea region, NATO's Eastern Flank and the Euro-Atlantic area as a whole, the press release added.
