BraveX Aero, Romaero pave way for unmanned aerial system cooperation

The startup BraveX Aero and the company Romaero have concluded, as part of the Black Sea Defence & Aerospace (BSDA) 2026 trade show, a memorandum of understanding on the exploration of industrial and technological collaboration in the area of unmanned aerial systems and aerospace structures made of composite materials.

According to a press release on Friday, the partnership paves the way for developing modern and integrated industrial capabilities in Romania for the production and scaling of unmanned aerial systems for the European defence and security market. The infrastructure is thus developing at a time when Europe is accelerating investment in defence technologies, industrial resilience and the expansion of local production facilities for autonomous platforms and aerospace systems.

The collaboration aims to define a cooperation framework for the production and industrialisation of components and structures for unmanned aircraft developed by BraveX Aero, as well as to identify joint development and production opportunities in the aerospace and defence industry.

'The local potential exists and is far too great to ignore. Startup companies like BraveX Aero need to grow smart, identify resources where they exist and capitalise on them. Such a partnership naturally leads to the growth and maturation of the Romanian industry in a crowded competitive space, supported by real opportunities such as the SAFE program,' according to BraveX Aero CEO Rasvan Costea-Barlutiu.

The collaboration capitalises on the complementarity between BraveX Aero's expertise in the design, development and operation of fixed-wing unmanned aircraft and the industrial capabilities of Romaero, a company with experience in the production and maintenance of aerospace structures and systems for civil and military programmes.

'Romaero aims to support the development of the Romanian aerospace industry through collaborations with innovative companies and by capitalising on the experience and existing industrial infrastructure. We believe that partnerships between established companies and new generations of technology developers are an important step towards strengthening national capabilities,' according to Speranța Munteanu, special administrator of Romaero.

During the discussions between the two companies, opportunities were analysed regarding the production of structures and airframes for the UAV platforms developed by BraveX Aero; development of scalable industrial capabilities for the production of unmanned aerial systems in Romania; joint projects in the field of aerospace and defence; technology transfer and industrialisation opportunities for European and international markets.

In a European context where member states aim to reduce external dependencies and develop regional production chains for critical defence technologies, the collaboration between BraveX Aero and Romaero is designed to strengthen a local industrial base capable of meeting the growing demand for autonomous systems and dual-use aerospace platforms.

The memorandum was signed at Black Sea Defense & Aerospace (BSDA), the most important regional trade show dedicated to the defence, aerospace and security industry, bringing together international companies, technology manufacturers, institutional decision-makers and strategic actors from the European and Euro-Atlantic defence ecosystem.

This week, the Romanian company BraveX Aero also signed a collaboration agreement with a French company in the military training equipment industry, under which the UAV platforms developed by BraveX Aero are integrated into advanced training, simulation and evaluation solutions for defence applications.

BraveX's client portfolio mainly comprises public administrations and institutional operators in Europe and structures in the defence sector of NATO countries, private companies in the field of security, with a focus on civil and defensive applications. The international markets include, in addition to Europe, regions such as Africa, Canada and South America.

BraveX Aero is a Romanian aerospace company specialising in the design and development of advanced unmanned aerial systems, with fixed wing and jet propulsion, intended for dual-use and defence applications, including ISR missions, critical infrastructure monitoring, air defence support, military training missions and search and rescue operations.

Romaero is one of the oldest leading companies in the Romanian aerospace industry and a strategic player in the aerospace and defence field, with experience in the production, integration and maintenance of aerospace structures and systems for civil and military programmes. The company operates one of the most important aerospace industrial infrastructures in Romania and collaborates with international partners in the defence and aviation industry.
