Romania makes debut at China International Import Expo in Shanghai with two pavilions, 15 companies
Romania is taking part for the first time in the China International Import Expo (CIIE), held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, 2026. Romania is participating in the event's ninth edition with two exhibition pavilions showcasing 15 companies, according to a press release from the Consulate General of Romania in Shanghai.
Held annually, CIIE is the world's largest exhibition dedicated to promoting imports into the Chinese market. Romania's two pavilions, the National Pavilion and the Agri-food Pavilion, have been organised with financial support from the state budget, through the Romanian Agency for Investments and Foreign Trade (ARICE).
The National Pavilion brings together seven companies from the wine, cosmetics, chemicals and fashion design industries, while the Agri-food Pavilion hosts nine companies operating in the meat, dairy, fruit and vegetable preserves, and bakery products sectors.
Romania's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, Dan-Horia Maxim, attended the exhibition's opening ceremony and visited the Romanian pavilions, where he held talks with representatives of the participating companies about opportunities and practical ways of accessing the Chinese market.
The partnership and economic relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova were also highlighted during a bilateral meeting held at Romania's National Pavilion.
According to the press release, the Republic of Moldova's delegation included Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation Claudiu Nasui, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Eugeniu Osmochescu, and Moldova's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, Petru Frunze.
The meeting was particularly significant as Romania and the Republic of Moldova are participating simultaneously for the first time with national pavilions at the China International Import Expo.
According to the cited source, this joint participation provided an opportunity to reaffirm their shared commitment to strengthening the bilateral economic partnership, promoting exports and expanding cooperation in international markets.
