ForMin Oana Toiu meets EP's President Roberta Metsola: Romania is unwavering on its European path
Romania still needs a government team that has the courage and perseverance necessary to honor the promises made to citizens and the financing plans agreed with European partners, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Toiu, who had an official meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, in Brussels on Monday.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), the meeting included discussions on priority files on the European agenda: Romania's priorities for the future multiannual budget, the measures necessary to increase competitiveness and business growth opportunities within an improved single market, the security situation and the European contribution to security.
A central topic of the discussions was the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the period 2028-2034.
The Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs shares the European Parliament's ambitious position for a budget capable of supporting the continent's economic transformation, the statement said.
Romania is unwavering on its European path. We are a country all the stronger the stronger the European Union is and the more easy are opportunities to access for all citizens. Their will for a European future is a strong anchor even in complicated times. Now, Romania is already at a level of maturity and development, as a member state, which allows it to contribute essentially to security, innovation and the European market, as well as to common decisions. At the same time, our strategic role also depends on the ability to deliver concrete results. Romania still needs a government team with the courage and perseverance necessary to honor the promises made to citizens and the financing plans agreed with European partners, including to manage to attract, this year, 10 billion euros from the NRRP for schools, hospitals and highways, the minister said.
Oana Toiu also showed that the business milieu needs an improved single market, with simplified rules and easy access to opportunities.
''The consistent financial allocation in the next Multiannual Financial Framework is a priority shared by Romania and the European Parliament. We also support that the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy - which helped Romania to develop rapidly after joining the European Union - remain the central pillars of the European budget, being fundamental instruments for reducing disparities and increasing real competitiveness', said Minister Oana Toiu.
Regionally, Minister Oana Toiu and the President of the European Parliament analyzed the consequences of tensions in the Middle East and the impact of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz on supply chains and energy security, about diplomacy as part of the solution and our country's expertise in managing solidarity corridors as Romania's asset in ensuring logistical resilience at the European level.
The two officials discussed the deep European attachment of the majority of citizens and the upcoming visit to Bucharest for Europe Day. AGERPRES(RO - writing by: Georgiana Tanasescu; EN - writing by: Bogdan Gabaroi)
