DISB2026/Tanczos Barna says recent Government measures show commitment to real economy's digital transformation

The measures recently taken by the Government show that we are committed to supporting the real economy in terms of digital transformation and it is essential for solutions to be sought so that, despite budget constraints, this sector receives increasing support, Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna said on Tuesday at the Digital Innovation Summit Bucharest 2026.

'This year, at this conference, we are talking about digital transformation and about what means digital transformation for economy and how can this digital transformation be used, this know-how, for economic purpose, in dual use, how we like to say. And I believe that the measures recently taken by the Government underscore and show once again the fact that we are committed to supporting the real economy on this path of digital transformation and in our efforts to meet the current challenges,' Tanczos Barna said.

He underscored that, two weeks ago, the Government approved an Emergency Ordinance introducing several state aid schemes for entrepreneurs, including 'at least two which are very important for the digital sector.'

'We will have a separate funding line for innovation and digital transition, a state aid scheme which will be competed in the next weeks and approved through a Government Decision. A second component is this Tech-Up Romania for research and high technologies. Through this scheme, basically, SMEs looking to launch projects of at least 5 million lei will receive support in the form of grants or tax credits, allowing them to combine non-reimbursable funding with fiscal incentives and achieve rapid transformation in research and in applying research results to the real economy,' the Deputy Prime Minister explained.

In his view, this sector needs increased support in order to become an engine of economic development and not just a communication tool between the citizen and the local or central administration.

'I believe that it is essential to seek solutions together so that, despite budget constraints, we can increasingly support this sector, helping it become a driver of economic development, and not just a tool for communication between the citizen and the local or central administration. This comprehensive transformation, which is our goal, can, in the digital era, transform the national economy and create added value,' Tanczos Barna pointed out.

The National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI) Bucharest is organizing between 10 and 12 March, at the Palace of Parliament, a new edition of the Digital Innovation Summit Bucharest 2026 international event.

The DISB 2026 agenda will cover topics such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, protection of critical infrastructures, blockchain, digital governance, digital education and international cooperation in the area of emerging technologies.
