ForMin Toiu holds talks with Saudi, Omani counterparts on Romanians stranded in region
Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu held phone talks on Wednesday with her counterparts from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, respectively, regarding the situation of Romanian citizens stranded in the region due to the conflict that erupted in the Middle East.
'In a phone call with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, I strongly condemned Iran's unjustified aggression against the Kingdom, emphasizing that the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure is unacceptable. I highlighted the importance of continued coordination and information exchange between our countries and regions. Romania remains committed to a close dialogue with its partners in the Middle East. Regarding the situation of Romanian citizens affected by recent developments in the region, we discussed airspace matters and ways of cooperation to ensure their protection and assistance, including effective collaboration with authorities for border transit,' Minister Toiu wrote on her X page.
The conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, also addressed the security situation in the region, highlighting the 'critical need for enhanced coordination and sustained communication.'
'Against the backdrop of recent hostilities, Romania remains closely engaged with its Middle East partners to ensure regional stability. Our discussion focused on the safety of Romanian tourists currently stranded in Muscat and Salalah due to airspace disruptions. We are exploring cooperation to facilitate commercial flights from Muscat to Romania and Europe. These routes could gradually accommodate Romanian citizens from Dubai as soon as the security situation allows. We are also continuously assessing the number and needs of our citizens across the region. I expressed my gratitude for Oman's vital diplomatic efforts toward de-escalation and for their commitment to minimizing security risks for our citizens until their safe return home is possible,' Oana Toiu also wrote on her X page.
