President:Romania-US Strategic Partnership is also strengthened through impactful educational programmes for our young people
The Strategic Partnership between Romania and the US is constantly strengthening not only through important economic and security projects, but also through impactful educational programmes for young people, President Nicusor Dan stated on Tuesday.
The head of state showed, in a post on his Facebook page, that the resumption of the Future Leaders Exchange programme in the 2026-2027 academic year represents very good news for the Romanian education and for the strategic relation between Romania and the US.
'This is one of the most competitive exchange programmes in the world, based on merit. Many participants have gone on to pursue successful careers in public administration, as well as in the private sector. Twenty Romanian high school students will thus have the opportunity to study at an American high school and live with an American family, allowing them to experience everyday life in the US firsthand,' he added.
The president underscored that the FLEX programme could be resumed thanks to the co-financing agreement signed between the Ministry of Education and Research and American Councils for International Education.
'The exceptional interest shown by Romanian high school students - 2,883 applicants for just 20 places - proves how strong young people's desire is to develop through quality education, international exposure and democratic values. Selection procedures are beginning these days and will take place over several months. I wish everyone the best of luck and congratulate them for their courage, ambition and determination to push their limits. Regardless of the outcome, each application is proof that education offers the best opportunities to build a future. Romania needs well-prepared, open and globally connected citizens and programmes such as FLEX are an essential tool for fostering closer ties between societies, as well as a unique opportunity for young people to mature,' President Nicusor Dan added.
