Romania-Italy Cultural Year 2026/Bucharest National Opera musicians give impressive recital at La Scala in Milan
The soloists of the Bucharest National Opera gave an impressive recital on Wednesday in the renowned Ridotto dei Palchi 'Arturo Toscanini' Hall of the La Scala Opera in Milan, as part of the program of the Romania-Italy Cultural Year 2026. The protagonists of the evening were soprano Iulia Isaev, baritone Alexandru Constantin and pianist Liana Mares, who offered the audience a remarkable musical journey through Romanian and Italian repertoires, the Romanian Embassy in Rome announced in a release on Thursday.
The artistic program brought together refined works by composers from the two countries, building a harmonious musical dialogue that highlighted the deep cultural affinities between Romania and Italy.
In the opening of the recital, the Romanian Ambassador to Italy, Gabriela Dancau, highlighted the long tradition of Romanian artists on the famous stage of the La Scala Opera, recalling the legendary figure of soprano Hariclea Darclee, who made her debut here in December 1890.
In his turn, Raffaele Cattaneo, Secretary of State with the Presidency of the Lombardy Region, emphasized the solidity of the economic relations between Romania and Italy, while also praising the exemplary integration of the Romanian community in Lombardy, describing it as 'an essential factor of development for the region'.

Luca Costamagna, President of the Culture Commission of the City Hall of Milan, welcomed the richness of bilateral cultural exchanges and highlighted the role of artistic collaboration in strengthening relations between the two countries.
Organized by the Romanian Embassy in Italy in partnership with the Consulate General of Romania in Milan and the Bucharest National Opera House, the event enjoyed a large audience that included representatives of local authorities, the diplomatic and cultural milieu, as well as members of the Romanian community in Lombardy. The recital was met with enthusiasm, confirming once again the power of music to unite people and nations through its universal language.
