EconMin Miruta: UM Sadu receives around 800,000 euros for dismantling existing ammunition in Romania

Image

Minister of Economy, Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Radu Miruta said on Friday, regarding the Sadu Mechanical Plant (UM Sadu), that the unit has received approximately 800,000 euros for the dismantling of existing ammunition in Romania.

'A piece of good news for UM Sadu, which has received approximately 800,000 euros, meaning the people at Sadu will have additional work in the coming period, it is a good thing to keep alive what is still being carried out at Sadu. What we have brought now is, in fact, the dismantling of existing ammunition in Romania. After a number of years, the ammunition stored within the MApN [the Ministry of National Defence] and the MAI [the Ministry of Internal Affairs] must be dismantled, for which payment is made and it has been ordered by ministerial decree to be disassembled at Sadu,' Minister Radu Miruta told a press conference in Targu Jiu.

Regarding the plant's operations, the minister mentioned that its low activity level is attributed to 'passive management.'

'At UM Sadu, the activity was blocked by passive management, they invoked a lack of sheet metal, I tried to unblock the situation in a human way, as I have no authority to decide to which buyer a sheet metal producer should sell, however, what is done at Sadu is also done elsewhere in the world, as long as others manage to purchase sheet metal, as long as Sadu has the money, for me, as minister, it is not understandable to claim a lack of raw material when money is available. It would be an overstatement to say the activity was blocked, it continued at a very low level. I cannot intervene in a commercial situation managed by a company's leadership, I can only observe whether things are happening or not, I can observe whether they have money or not. They do have money, but not much is happening,' he added.

According to the plant's website, currently, the object of activity of UM Sadu consists in manufacturing products and providing services, as follows: research, design, manufacture and marketing of NATO caliber infantry ammunition (5.56 x 45 mm, 7.62 x 51 mm, 9 mm Parabellum, in various designs), as well as 'Eastern' calibers, from 5.45 mm to 9 mm Makarov, and various pyrotechnic initiation elements.

Moreover, through its facilities, the plant can provide a wide range of services, namely research and development activities on various projects, design, production and tool repairs. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Oana Popescu; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
