Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), said that Romania cannot be modernised with only 15% representation in Parliament, especially when political partners cannot be relied upon, stressing the need for the party to reorganise over the next two years in order to become 'a decisive factor' in the country's modernisation process.

'To decisively influence what happens in the country and contribute to Romania's modernisation, we cannot do this with 15% representation in Parliament - we must understand that - especially if we have partners we cannot rely on, partners who do not honour their agreements and do not respect our country. Our party has only one solution. In order to truly do what our country needs and become a decisive factor in the country's modernisation, we need over the next two years to reorganise the party, open it up to valuable people, to people who work in this country, who want an efficient state, institutions that are not run like fiefdoms by those who lead them but are placed in the service of citizens, who want a government that does not tolerate privileges, that acts fairly and creates conditions for development. And where liberals hold office, people should perceive local administrations as well organised, orderly and safe communities, where traditions are respected and conditions for development are created. This is what we must do in the coming years,' Bolojan said on Sunday at the PNL headquarters in Bucharest during an event marking 151 years since the party's founding.

He added that attracting valuable people into the party requires liberals to promote performance and merit.

'And I am convinced that by promoting performance, as our colleagues have done these days by granting awards in Iasi and Arges, by welcoming into our party people who are benchmarks in their communities, by using the experience we have accumulated over the years, we can convince more Romanians that one of the important solutions for Romania's modernisation is strong and trustworthy political parties.
