Romania won three medals at the IFSC Para Climbing World Championships in Seoul: two golds by Razvan Nedu and Cosmin Florin Candoi, and one bronze by Daniel-Bebe-Vasilica Andrei in the competitions for athletes with visual impairments, the National Paralympic Committee announced Wednesday in a press release.

'Romania obtained a historic result at the IFSC [International Federation of Sport Climbing] Para Climbing World Championships 2025, held in Seoul (South Korea, 20-25 September). Three athletes from the national Paralympic team qualified for the world final in categories for visually impaired athletes - and all three reached the podium! With two world titles and a bronze medal, Romania confirms its status as one of the strongest teams in international para climbing. Para climbing will be included for the first time in the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Paralympic Games, and Romania is already proving it has athletes ready to compete for Olympic medals. The achievement in Seoul marks not only a historic moment, but also a decisive step toward the Paralympic future of this sport. Congratulations to our athletes and the entire team for bringing Romania to the highest ranks of the world podium!,' the quoted source mentioned.

Athlete Razvan Nedu won the gold medal in the Lead - Men B2 category with a score of 36+, Cosmin Florin Candoi took gold in Lead - Men B3 with a score of 40, and Daniel-Bebe-Vasilica Andrei earned bronze in Lead - Men B3 with a score of 33+.

Razvan Nedu (B2) has been active on the international stage since 2016 and has an impressive record of 17 medals. In 2021, he won the world vice-champion title in Moscow despite competing with his arm in a cast. In Seoul, he claimed his first world championship title, surpassing athletes from Japan.

Cosmin Florin Candoi (B3) debuted in 2019 and managed to obtain the gold medal in all 12 international competitions he has entered. He is the reigning world champion, having won titles in Briancon (2019) and Bern (2023). In Seoul, he confirmed his dominance by securing his third world title.

Daniel-Bebe-Vasilica Andrei (B3) is the youngest of the three medalists in Seoul and has been active only since 2023, but he has quickly brought Romania five international medals. In Seoul, he reached the world podium with a bronze in the B3 category.

President of the National Paralympic Committee Eduard Novak expressed confidence in the participation of Romanian athletes at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

'Our athletes show us that through hard work and passion there are no limits when there is determination. Romania is becoming a strong voice in world para climbing and these results give us confidence that we will be among the top nations in Los Angeles 2028, when the discipline will be included for the first time in the Paralympic Games program,' Eduard Novak said.

The Romanian team at the Para Climbing World Championships in Seoul was made up of eight athletes: Razvan Nedu, Cosmin Florin Candoi, Daniel Andrei, Ionela Dragan, Adriana Tofan, Stefan Dogaru, Marius Sandu and Andrei Petraru. AGERPRES (RO - writing by: Adrian Tone; EN - writing by: Rodica State)
