Flag of Israel to be projected on Parliament building Tuesday evening
The Standing Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies approved a request by deputy of the Jewish community in Romania Silviu Vexler, that the flag of Israel be projected on the building of Parliament in the evening of May 20, as Parliament marks the Day of Solidarity and Friendship between Romania and the State of Israel.
'Despite being almost continuously faced with a hostile environment, the State of Israel has remained a symbol of democracy, a model for a tolerant society, but also a global benchmark for research and innovation. One of Romania's essential partners both in the Middle East and worldwide, the State of Israel has constantly supported Romania and the Romanian people, making major contributions that have materialized in numerous areas of national interest,' Silviu Vexler, who is also the president of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania, argued.
According to him, Romania and Israel are linked by privileged relations of a strategic nature, established on fundamental historical, political, cultural and moral connections.
'The projection of the flag of the State of Israel on the entire building of the Romanian Parliament on the evening of May 20, in a symbolic gesture, will be an excellent opportunity to reiterate and develop the strong relationship of friendship between the two countries, reaffirming the special and dynamic nature of the partnership between Romania and the State of Israel, and will also highlight the essential contribution of the Romanian Parliament to the consolidation of these key relations,' Vexler said.
